A Brief History of the 3rd Battalion, 1st Punjab Regiment records the service of a British Indian Army unit from its formation in 1776 through the years following the First World War. The English original was published in 1927 to commemorate 150 years of service. This Arabic edition is translated by Mostafa Younes.
The account follows the battalion’s changing names and service in India and Burma before turning to the First World War campaigns in Egypt and Mesopotamia, including Ctesiphon and the Siege of Kut. It also covers the Third Afghan War, Palestine and Waziristan. The original includes appendices on decorations, mentions in despatches, wartime casualties and commanding officers.
Written from the perspective of a colonial military institution, the history should be read within that context. Published by Kinzy Publishing Agency, this Arabic-language edition has 112 pages.
