About Stephen Crane
Stephen Crane (1871–1900) was an American novelist, short-story writer, poet and journalist. Maggie: A Girl of the Streets depicts poverty, while The Red Badge of Courage examines fear and courage in war. His experience of shipwreck informed The Open Boat. Close observation, psychological intensity and irony distinguish writing that contributed to American naturalism during a career cut short by his death at twenty-eight.
