About Frederick Porter Wensley
Frederick Porter Wensley (1865–1949) was a British detective who joined the Metropolitan Police in 1888 and served in Whitechapel before rising to senior leadership in criminal investigation. His 1931 memoir, known as Forty Years of Scotland Yard, recounts cases and working methods from his career. The book offers a personal perspective on the history of policing and detection, with its recollections best understood in the institutional and social context of the period.
