About Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Suli
Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Suli was an Abbasid writer and historian who died in 335 or 336 AH. A court companion and tutor, he wrote about caliphs, poetry and poets. His account of Abu Tammam defends the poet and literary innovation while evoking intellectual life in Baghdad and Samarra. His works illuminate the relationship between literary culture and political patronage, including debates over the modern style of Abbasid poetry.
