About this book
Rasul Darwish’s Di Parm returns to the period of Portuguese expansion in the Gulf and the Indian Ocean. Beginning aboard a Bahraini pilgrims’ ship, the story extends to Hormuz, Muscat and Sohar, bringing conquest into contact with resistance and struggles over political power. Alongside fleets and fortresses, the novel considers the pressure war places on loyalty, conscience and human relationships. Love and betrayal become part of a wider account of a region undergoing violent change.
