Memoirs of a Teacher

About this book

Al-Rami Abdel Rahman looks back on a life beginning in Alkou in the Anti-Atlas, marked by early loss and movement between cities before finding stability in teaching. Marrakesh and Casablanca appear alongside mountain journeys, ageing buses, schools, and memories of Quran books. The memoir follows the making of an identity under difficult circumstances and the feeling of estrangement within one's own country. Classroom life belongs to that wider story, connecting the author's work as an educator with the experiences through which he learned to establish a place for himself.
