The Return: Part One

About this book

Abdel Ghani leaves Oujda at fourteen after a killing and spends years on the run before his talent for painting brings wealth and recognition in Casablanca. Near his seventy-first birthday, discovering that he has schizophrenia unsettles his understanding of the past. Which remembered events actually happened, and which have become entangled with delusion? This first volume follows his decision to return and revisit the places and memories of his flight, questioning whether a successful later life can resolve an uncertain personal history.
