Al-Mazamiz

About this book

Street life and informal conversation provide the setting and language for Al-Mazamiz. Khalaf Baskharoun Khalil writes in Egyptian colloquial Arabic, placing satire beside sorrow and spiritual reflection. Longing for a father and a lover’s reproach appear among the collection’s concerns. Its poems turn familiar encounters, relationships and memories into reflections on pain and hope, connecting private feeling with popular experience and the contradictions of ordinary life.
