Second Floor, Apartment 9

About this book

Leaving his previous circumstances behind, Omar takes a plane from Egypt toward Kuwait. Nabd Al-Qimma Publishing House releases Second Floor, Apartment 9 by Youssef El-Afifi, detailing the experiences of expatriates sharing living quarters abroad. Within the rooms of this building, the protagonist encounters several roommates, including Hazem, a strict accountant who assumes authority over the others, and Yehia, whose romances repeatedly collapse. The group also includes Ramzy, known for sudden anger, and Hassan, an Arabic teacher concealing contradictions beneath a pious demeanor. Through daily interactions and friction among these individuals, the narrative examines the weight of migration, dashed childhood expectations, and the process of confronting personal limitations in an unfamiliar environment.
